WolfHorse Outfitters provides unique, personally-customized horseback rides into the extraordinary natural wildness of the traditional Chiricahua and Warm Springs Apache land of the Gila National Forest.
No more than 4 people per group so you’ll enjoy a true Apache lifeways experience on horseback. You’ll be guided through sacred wilderness canyons and valleys of wildflowers, streams, and forests of Aspens and evergreens. To optimize this intimate experience, all rides are customized to the interests and experience levels of the participants, the seasons, and the natural conditions. Rides include guide/wrangler, saddle horse, and riding equipment. Backpacking and hikes include your guide.
Rides either start from our basecamp trailhead or we can arrange to trailer our horses to other trailhead locations. We will book to a maximum of 4 people on each trip.
Sometimes people book together; others book individually. We offer an add-on cost option for those who wish to have an “exclusive trip.” Our Exclusive Reservation Add-On, per group, per day is only an additional $100.
Daytime rides are either half-day or full-day and start at 9:30am* from our WolfHorse Outfitters base camp in Arenas Valley, New Mexico, 3 Miles East of Silver City, at the Fort Bayard Elk Refuge / Dragonfly Trailhead. *Please arrive 10 minutes prior to start time.
Half Day (2.5-3 hours) 9:30-12:30 Per Person Rate: $95.
Full Day (5.5-6 hours) 9:30-2:30 (Lunch Included) Per Person Rate: $125.

Approximately 3-4 hours ride. See the landscape in a different light! Watch the moon rise over the mountains. Ride back to Base Camp quietly by moonlight. Rare sightings of wildlife are possible. Limited to no more than 4 people. Add-on exclusive available.

Many of our repeat guests love this wilderness horseback adventure trip option. Stay overnight in the local accommodations of your choosing, then meet at the wilderness trailhead each morning for a full day of adventure. Ride, Forage, Explore, Fish, or Swim from 9:00am-3:00pm. There is a limit of 1-4 people and a 3-Day Minimum. Guide, Saddle Horse, Riding Equipment, and Lunch are included.
Overnight accommodations and transportation to our meeting place are not included, please see Useful Links and Inquire. Please arrive at the trailhead at least 10 minutes prior to start time. Allow plenty of time. Do not rely on GPS or cell phone connection.

Bookings for Daytime and Moonlight Rides from WolfHorse Outfitters Base Camp require Payment is required at time of booking to confirm your spot. Cancellation and No Shows forfeit payment. See complete Cancellation policy in Terms.
After making sure your waiver is in place, a horseback ride starts out with you leading your horse to familiarize yourself with the horse you will be riding. From there you will get a short lesson on your horse to gain confidence and understand how to move your horse, stop and go.
Our guides will have the final call in regards to weather. Should we make the decision to cancel Day Rides or Hiking & Backpacking Tours, you have the option of rescheduling and will not incur any charges. We have different policies for Multi-Day Pack Trips and Multi-Day Rides.
